What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy focuses on the use of any creative mediums (for example, painting, drawing, colouring, etc) to encourage individuals to express themselves during the process of creating which helps them to observe and understand their psychological and emotional state in the art, in the presence of a credentialed art therapist.

What is Culinary Therapy?

Culinary Art Therapy explores using the process of baking or cooking, and tapping the individual's familial and personal relationship with food and edible ingredients to understand their psychological and emotional state.

The therapeutic techniques of baking through the repetitive motion of folding, kneading, rolling or whisking can encourage individuals to explore their inner world and develop more self awareness and mindfulness. There are also other therapeutic benefits when it comes to culinary therapy such as reducing anxiety and improve emotional regulation.  By observing the mixture being transform from its raw to its final baked state can also make one feel accomplished, allowing them to feel more confident.

What's the difference between me baking from home and coming for culinary art therapy?

I do encourage individuals to take time for themselves to enjoy the process of cooking and baking than to see it as a time of mundane chore. Just having that time alone to create something in the kitchen can be satisfying and comforting to the soul.

On the other hand, when it comes to culinary art therapy, the difference is, a certified therapist is present to work with you through the process and guide you to piece your experiences together to inform you  about your psychological and emotional state of mind. If the process gets overwhelming, the therapist is present to help contain the emotion and guide the client through the process.

Here's how it goes, not everything is going to work out all the time. But how we shaped our approach is going to provide you new opportunities to learn about yourself and the way you view unsuccessful attempts.
